The Bee Project 2013
Help The Bee Cause at Pippin!
Don't worry....bee happy....unfortunately we should be worried when it comes to the British bee population though!
There are around 250 species of bees in the UK, and most of these are declining rapidly, due to a combination of factors including changes in farming techniques, loss of habitat, poor weather conditions and the use of harmful pesticides.
We need to act now to save the bees - so Pippin created an eye-catching window display over the summer of 2013 to help raise awareness of the problem!
We'd love it if you could get involved and do your bit to help save the bees, so we've provided lots of useful links below to get you started:
Help Save Bees is a great website with clearly laid out information about the plight of the humble bee, and a To Do list to help you get involved.
The British Beekeepers Association has lots of useful information, including a kids corner! You could also adopt a hive in Scotland to help beekeepers continue their fantastic work.
The Bumblebee Conservation Trust is specifically geared toward bumblebees rather than bees in general, and has loads of information about the right kind of plants to grow, a kids corner and the opportunity to make a donation or get involved with surveys.
Friends of the Earth - support The Bee Cause! Here you can sign the petition, make a donation, volunteer, and find out more information about bees.
The Woodland Trust has 4000 free tree packs to give away to schools, community and youth groups this summer - check our their 'free trees are good for bees' link to make sure you're applying for the right trees to help the bees!
Don't have a garden? Check out Edinburgh Garden Partners, a brilliant project which matches people who want to garden with those who have space to share! You'll soon have your new patch buzzing with bees!
We hope these links are helpful - thank you for buzzing by!
